What is the difference between high efficiency and standard efficiency furnaces?

Standard-efficiency furnaces use to be 68% and now days they convert roughly 80% of the energy from gas into heat and 20% goes in waste. High-efficiency furnaces convert 90-97% (depending on the model you select) of the energy from gas into heat.
